The Wonderful World of Goodwill!

Goodwill is one of the best places to shop when you are looking to dress OOAK's. I have found silk, leather, wool and pretty much every other type of fabric I have been looking for at my local Goodwill store. Often times I have to search through rows of shirts, jackets, purses and even curtains before I find what I am looking for but if I am willing to spend some time searching through the racks I rarely leave empty handed.

Of course sometimes it is really difficult to cut up my finds, occasionally I find a gem that forces me to come up with a compromise... like the fawn colored leather skirt I found this week. I walked in and found a full length, designer leather skirt (Jones New York) for ... drum roll please... $5.99! Yes, you read that right. $5.99! WOW! I love this skirt. Fortunately it is way too long for me so I will be cutting it off  just a few inches below that seam line and will have gotten a beautiful skirt and plenty of leather for an amazing price.
Is this cute or what!!!

This month has seemed to fly by. I did manage to sculpt and bake several projects and have almost finished the coat for my Goblin. I am pretty happy with the way things are looking.

While deciding on the fabric for my Goblin's coat he made it clear that he wanted something that Sherlock Holmes would have been proud to wear. Now when I pictured Sherlock Holmes, the first person I thought of was Robert Downey Jr... I can't help it! Then I thought of wool. Where would I ever find something that would work, that I could afford? Well, here is what I found at my local Goodwill store to the tune of $5.99

I was thrilled. This beautiful wool blazer was inexpensive, good quality and perfect for my needs. My co-workers thought I was crazy. To a one they asked me "Are you really going to cut that up?" even my 13 year old son asked me if I was really going to cut the jacket. You Betcha! Here is what my work table looked like while I was transforming the jacket into it's new incarnation.

He still needs a hat, a shirt and some accessories but I am pleased with the progress I have made on him. His coat still needs some tweaking so that it fits him perfectly but he appears to like what I have done so far. The bottom piece of the leather skirt I mentioned above will be used to create the bag holding his tools of the trade... you know, magnifying glass, notebook... what ever else the stylish goblin detective needs. The next pictures I post of him will be once he is complete. I can't wait!!

Here is what he currently looks like.

Here are the 3 heads that I am going to begin painting soon, They are waiting patiently for me to finish dressing a few of the other locals.

They seem pretty happy. MY plans for them are for the guy on the far left to be a Christmas Elf, the guy on the far right to be a Jester and the little one in the middle to be a sweet, nature based fairy. Of course I only have so much control over these things, they all have their own ideas as to who they are and if I don't figure it out then things tend to go terrible wrong!

Case in point - I still am working on "the Goddess". Apparently I have not figured out what she really is supposed to be yet, everything I put on her is wrong so she sits and waits for me to discover what it is that she needs to be. Hopefully I can figure that out soon.

Have a wonderfully wicked week!

Debbie
