To get out of my creative rut... a.k.a. procrastination.. I have decided that every day I WILL do something creative for at least an hour.
Tonight I made some birthday cards for some close friends and last night I finally put hair on one of my sculptures, no wonder she hated everything I dressed her in, she wasn't an Egyptian Goddess, she was an Indian Princess and now that I figured that out, she is coming together nicely.
This exercise in creativity has been exactly what I needed and after two days I am already starting to feel more creative. I know there are some nights that I will be unable to do this, tomorrow for instance since I have a meeting to attend, however I believe that forcing myself to work will be just what I need to create on a more consistent basis.
My self-imposed rules are as follows:
1) It has to be something with my art, I can't go read a book no matter how creative and wonderful that may sound!
2) I have to make something. It can be a card, a painting, I can sculpt a head, hands or feet, even write a short story or poem, I just have to create something.
3) The hour doesn't start until I pull some supplies out and actually start to create.
4) I can plan on working on one thing and then go off in a new direction as many times as I want as long as I DO something.
5) I can play much longer than the hour if I want to!
I already have a list of some things that I want to do. That list keeps getting longer and longer. Soon I hope to have some work to feature here, like maybe those Voo Doo dolls! Who knows, stranger things have happened!
Ciao for now,
D
